Cut Capo Stories

Mitch,

First let me tell you what a blessing the cut capo has been in my life. When I was 12 years old I had the tips of two fingers on my left hand cut off in an accident. As much as I tried, I could not hold down the strings on a guitar with my left hand. (yes, i am right handed)

Then, about 3 years ago (at the age of 39...) I heard about the cut capo. I ordered myself one cut capo and one regular capo from keyser, and also bought a left-handed acoustic. I have learned to play quite a bit and played in Worship bands ever since, even leading worship on a number of occassions. This has all been made possible by God's grace and the cut capo.

Mitch,

Thanks for sending it and also I wanted to say thanks for helping out and blessing my friend Randy!

You see I'm a worship leader and so is my friend, serving in the same church for many years until my family and I moved for ministry in Knoxville Tennessee. He took over lead worshipper for me, but that was shockingly interrupted when he had a terrible accident with a table saw, severely cutting his hand and wrist area with considerable nerve damage. After 10 + major surgeries and countless months of therapy it truly is a miracle he can even move his left hand much less play his guitar. God answered many prayers concerning Randy and today he is once again leading worship at his church in Santa Fe, NM using only his thumb, index, middle and pinky fingers (he lost the ring finger). This is where you come in. I had recommended he check out this new capo design seeing as a lot of the cord forms only use 2 fingers. Anyway, he bought the capo from you and the cord chart and it has really expanded what he is able to play so far as worship is concerned. Just thought you'd like to know your "business" has been a blessing to many who worship at Sunlit Hills Church.

I also look forward to learning the different cords using the cut-capo.
Funny, I've known about it for a long time but never took the time to get one. I was moved to do so after the summer I just had. I'm Manager of Technical Services at the LifeWay Glorieta Conference Center and I ran FOH audio at different youth conferences here for guys like Billy Foote, Ross King, Charlie Hall, and Todd Agnew and they all used a cut-capo extensively, so I'm jumpin' in too!

Blessings to you!

Hi there!  Well if you want my input on the cut capo, here it is.  I am not a worship leader but i played in a worship group.  I have played the guitar for 8 years or so, right now i am 20.  My passion is to write and record music.  I bought a bunch of studio stuff 2 years ago and just dove in.  I am always interested in new products to add to my collection of music stuff.  I heard about the cut capo from the pastor of the church i was attending in Torrington, Wyo.  As soon as i heard of it i ordered it.  I found it amazingly easy to get the hang of.  It's a great idea that is great for any level of guitarist. I have started to record some things with it and it sounds great.  I don't know that i have that much of a success story with it, but i love it and will continue to use it!  I especially find that it sounds good for worship songs. It's great open sound to accompany my voice.

Mitch:
Where do I begin?  I am a classically-trained pianist, who decided a few years ago to take classical guitar...after all, I thought, how hard could it be?  Well, it was the hardest thing I've ever started..so I stuck with the piano. Last year, I was asked to lead worship on a men's retreat (no problem with my portable keyboards) but they did ask that some of the songs be played on the guitar...yikes.  So, I got a great deal on an acoustic-electric Ibanez and agreed to lead worship. I know a few basic chords (although I completely hate the F chord) and I haven't built up enough strength in my left hand to do barr-chords.  That's when someone told me about the "Foote", or the short-cut-capo.  I was in heaven.  It wasn't very hard to transpose everything to E, and if I needed to I just capo'd and moved the Foote up to change keys...SWEET. Needless to say, a lot of the new worship songs are in the key of E, written specifically for use with a short-cut-capo.  I LOVE IT. However, I am still trying to learn a few more chords and practice my barr-chords...after all, I can't take my keyboards with me everywhere I go? All my best

I am a worship leader in a contemporary church of about 300.  I am primarily a keyboard player.  When my awesome (only) guitarist had to move on, I grabbed my acoustic and was determined to master it.  I soon started playing in church and the cut capo has been a wonder!  It has allowed me to play at a higher level in a short time.  Besides, many worship songs were recorded with a cut capo and you just can't duplicate the chords with out it.  Thanks especially for E/G# !!

Hey Mitch,
My name is Micah Messersmith and I'm a worship leading youth minister. I love it! I had to get the cut capo because all the guys that are writing the cutting edge music are using them. I really struggled at first, but then I ordered the chord chart from you. I've really found a use for the cut on the fourth frett and have even written a little diddy with it. I love to just play around with it and see what I can figure out. Thanks for quenching my boredom!!!

Hi,

My name is Leonardo Gonzalez, a worship leader at Victory World Church in Norcross.

I ordered the cut capo and have been using it weekly. It adds a whole new flexibility with the way I play songs. I am able to use different chords and make more difficult chords, easier to play! I’ve been able to write songs using the cut capo and change the sound of pre-written songs.

Thank you,

Leonardo Gonzalez

Hey there Mitch!
Great to hear from you and what your up to regarding the cut capo. I can't say enough about using the cut capo... I learned about the cut capo while going to the School of Worship at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa about 3 years ago. We were privileged to have Danny Donnelly (The Kry and Kenny Loggins) as a music theory instructor. He introduced us to the cut capo and affected my musicianship in an astounding way!

Since then I use it every day and find that it has enhanced our worship here at Calvary Chapel Perris Valley greatly. Because we have more than one guitar on the team at any given time, using the cut capo gives us the opportunity to add different voicings to our 'sound.' And, because we are all at different development levels the ease of using the cut capo is a great factor. I purchased the Worship Together How To book too ... a great resource!

On another note, Mitch, since we put information about the cut capo on our website we have more hits than ever!!! Up to 90 or more hits a day and almost all of our visitors take a trip over to the Cut Capo Page! It's amazing how many people from all over the world are inquiring about the cut capo. I'm sure that there are many worship leaders out there who would agree with me and send you a big, "Thanks!," for all you have done to share your love of playing the guitar with the rest of us.

Keep on for Jesus!
Because He Is,
